Why protect your horse's legs?

It's essential to protect your horse's legs in order to stop its feet and tendons from getting injured. Frequently used for disciplines that involve jumping over obstacles, leg protectors can also be used when horses are moving quickly and with tight turns, for example in Western disciplines (barrel racing, etc.). In these events there is a risk of a horse's limbs hitting one another.

What protection should you choose for your horse?

Each activity needs a certain kind of protection. For show jumping, we recommend open or closed tendon boots as well as fetlock boots. Open tendon boots will let the horse feel when it touches the obstacle's bar while still supporting its tendons, which work hard during repeated jumps. Closed tendon boots will let a horse with an open wound carry on training while minimising the risk aggravating the injury.

In order to protect your horse's foot and ankle, we recommend using open or closed overreach boots.

How can you accelerate a horse's recovery after exercise? How can you protect your horse when transporting it?

If you want to help your horse's tendons recover after exercise, you will need to put on a cotton or flannel base along with standing bandages. The flannels could also be soaked in a treatment such as a relaxing or refreshing gel.

Lastly, if you are transporting your horse in a horse box, make sure it is wearing tendon boots or leg protectors and a tail protector.

At DECATHLON you will find a wide range of horse and pony boots at an affordable price and in a variety of options.
