In 2003, our customers told us that they were dreaming of a tent that popped up by magic. Some may have thought of this as mere utopia, but the Quechua product engineers took this as a challenge. Two years later the 2 Seconds tent arrived in stores. It was an immediate success and over the years the innovations kept on coming: colours, ventilation systems, easy folding away system, customisation. “We are truly in a dynamic to develop innovations that revolve around the user. This is how we have been able to perpetually surprise our customers,” explains the product manager.
“The 2 Seconds tent has evolved several times since it was invented" The story of the product is that one innovation has lead the way for many others!

In 2012, the Kalenji design team set itself the challenge of creating a shoe that would work for any stride. Its exclusive concept, named the K-Only, was finally brought to life after two years of biomechanical research, one year of prototyping and honing the technical solution, and six months of longitudinal monitoring with 372 runners, carried out by the Luxembourg Institute of Health. This collaboration between Kalenji, Decathlon SportLabs and the LIH allowed us to study the impact of shoe type on running-related injuries, and thereby discover which model was the most suitable for all strides. The result: Because it is suitable for all stride types, whether neutral, pronator or supinator, the Kiprun LD makes every runner's life easy!
This strategy has 2 main objectives:
1) “Innovate smart” because, first and foremost, we want to make sport easier for people who use our products. We place the user at the heart of our approach and we focus on usage innovations. Listening to, and observing sports people in action, in our Research & Development centre, in our laboratories, is how our sales assistants, product managers, designers or engineers imagine the product of the future – the product that is more practical, comfortable, enjoyable and safe for the user.
The 2seconds tent is a perfect example. Quechua’s design teams revolutionised mountain sports forever by fulfilling the dream of every hiker with a fast, simple, intuitive, instantaneous pitching system. And this saga is still running after several years.
2) We also want to innovate for the benefit of everyone, in all product categories, not only at the most expensive or sophisticated end. Our aim, therefore, is that our innovations are accessible to a maximum number of customers and users worldwide because their prices are as low as possible.
We share all this expertise during the Innovation Awards by Decathlon. Every year, this event is a unique opportunity for employees to experience the spirit of innovation that drives us all, to discover amazingly smart products that will soon be available in Decathlon stores and online.
