What makes the Tarmak R500 and its Magic Jam so special?
The Tarmak R500 basketball is one of a kind. Some balls are slippery, have terrible bounce and can't be repaired. We came up with a solution. Our ball features a reinforced cover and has a green gel on the inside made of microparticles of rubber which, when sucked up by air, fill in any punctures and strengthen worn areas. This prevents air leaking out so you can keep playing. We called this gel Magic Jam.
Is the R500 really puncture-proof?
The Tarmak R500 ball won't go flat for up to 10 punctures of 2 mm in diameter. If you find a hole, bounce the ball at least 10 times. This causes the Magic Jam to move around and fill in the hole before hardening on contact with air. If the ball loses too much pressure, simply re-inflate it (to 0.62 bar for ideal bounce).
What makes the R500 so grippy?
Having a good grip is essential in basketball. We turned to something else that depends on excellent grip for inspiration: tyres. The Tarmak R500 basketball was designed with a rubber cover that provides exceptional durability and grip. The sculpted panels draw inspiration from tyre tread and alternate with panels in a thick, basketball pebbling that also ensures excellent grip.
How much should you inflate your basketball?
An under- or overinflated basketball will not give you the right feel for the ball on the court. The recommended pressure for your basketball is clearly indicated by the manufacturer on each ball. Ideally, you should use a pump with a manometer for more precision. At Tarmak, we recommend a pressure of: 0.62 bar. Happy hoops!
What ball should you use?
The ball size depends on the player's age and sex. Baby basketball: size 1 to 3. Girls and boys under 10: size 5. Girls aged 10 and up, women, and boys aged 10 to 12: size 6. Boys over 12 and men: size 7.If you want a very durable ball, go for a rubber ball. If you want a ball with a good feel, leather or synthetic are the right materials.
What height basket should you choose?
The official height of a basketball basket is 3.05m (rim height). If you want a basketball basket for your child, you need something that will grow with them. For younger kids there isn't an official height so you can choose whatever suits them best. Up to the age of 10, club baskets are set at 2.60m. After the age of 10, the hoop height for both girls and boys is 3.05m.
