Bought this one in June end and cycled more than 600 km's in 47 activities and so on....
Didn't faced any issues till now. Build Quality is excellent.
This was my experience after 1 year and 5 months. First of all i am a casual rider , mostly ride in the urban area itself.
This bike was categorized under MTB but the quality doesn't meet the standards of the MTB bike.
Within the usage period i got to change the rear wheel hub bearing set. But utter most thing is broken spoke . As i already mentioned i am a casual city rider, i don't perform any stunt practice like jumping over the ramp or off road stuff.
Under quality usage of spoke and bearing leads to this kinda problem.
When i just inquired with decathlon outlet their answer was pathetic. The reason for spoke breakage is due to riding through big pothhole road.
If this rock rider 520 spoke wheel cant handle the indian street road then how it gonna survive the offload Terrain.
As this bike cost around 26k and accessories costs extra . Indian customers like us, expect a much more quality and low cost maintenance products from decathlon.
Thank you for taking the time to give us your review. The spokes of bicycles can break if there is a sharp force in a direction perpendicular to the line of the spoke. This can happen when we get off the tarmac on the mad and immediately try to come up back on the road or in the case of potholes. I do agree that MTBs have to be rugged but this specific stress can bring down an MTB as well. I apologise for the bad experience and let us get your bike fixed at the closest Decathlon store.
The Bike have a flashy graphics and performs good with SRAM shifters. But except the Inner Tubes.
with 100 kms of drive i got 3 punctures with no nail piercing or any kind of damage to the tyre. Simple the tyre got bubbled up and the wheels became flat.
I've been using this bicycle for four 4 months and put it under all kinds of test. Short distance, Long distance, Climbing altitudes and even a race with the Elite group but this beast didn't disappoint me even once. It's tires good for all conditions good roads, bad roads, dry roads, wet roads. In the end great product from Decathlon.
There is no doubt the product is value for the money.
Things can be improved:
1]Shifting of front gear from 2 to 3 is pretty hard
2]There is only one free service and there after per service is pretty expensive
Excellent guidance by Decathlon, Mysore road staff who explained all about these new bikes and choose a right one for my use case.
I am 40+ now (used to cycle to school 25 years ago).
I am writing review after using Rock Rider 520 for more than 1 year, 13500+ km, almost 250km per week. 40 km per day for cycle to work plus few long rides in and around Bangalore. All self service so far (watch youtube), Tyre change after 10000km, . Bought helmet, rechargeable lights (handle and seat post) dual head pump, hand pump, extra tube and a toolkit plus small fittings like reflectors. Thats all required to keep going. Excellent quality bikes. Bought few wearable spare parts initially, but none need to use so far :-)
1. Excellent return on investment (Earlier used to go by car, which translates to 13000 km -> Rs.1,00,000/- (fuel cost + service))
2. Healthier than a year ago, anytime of day active.
3. No subscription to Gym.
4. Average speed 20km per hour in Bangalore city peak hours. Huge saving in time, faster by any other means in Bangalore.
5. Door to Door (no issues like last mile connectivity, dependency with other modes)
6. My bit to reduce pollution and clean environment
I wish more 40+ age in Bangalore to sign up for cycle to work.
This is far better than Rockrider 340. This is very Robust bike, either on highway or for offroading, you don't have to think twice before choosing the road to explore. Disk brakes works well in every situation. I personally recommend it to every bike enthusiast.
I am using 520 from last 5 Month and can surely say that this is good MTP at this price. It is made of aluminum frame and having Disk break in front and rear. It is bit heavy but you have 3 front and 8 rear gears to carry that weight with an ease when pedaling.
Should had feature of locking the suspension. Metal colour is going where the wiring are getting rubbed against. Handle bar should have option to raise it further and can be more straight.
