Technical Information

1
Sizing information
Quite a close-fitting cut. The jacket's inner volume allows you to wear it over a thin second layer such as a micro-fleece.
2
Pocket system
2 hand pockets + 1 chest pocket with zip fastening.
3
Thermal comfort and windproof
The wind makes the perceived temperature drop considerably. With an outside temperature of 0°C and 20 km/h winds, it will feel like the temperature is -10°C. The so-called “windproof” components cancel out this uncomfortable wind chill. By creating a barrier against the wind, they are very good at reducing heat loss.
4
Jacket hem drawcord
Elastic drawcords and toggles.
5
Breathability
The main fabric used throughout the jacket, except at the sides, has a wind proof membrane with a breathability of 2814 g/m2 per 24 hrs (according to the JIS 1099 A standard).
6
Water repellent property of the component (not to be confused with the waterproofing)
The water repellent property of a fabric is its capacity to make water run off its surface without absorbing it. This prevents the fabric from soaking up water, and keeps it lightweight and breathable. The fabric is made water repellent by treating its outer surface, however this property may deteriorate with use. In order to reactivate it, follow the guide: https://www.quechua.fr/conseils/comment-reactiver-la-deperlance-de-sa-veste-a_86425

Recommended additional product
Waterproofing spray for leather and textiles. https://www.decathlon.fr/bombe-re-impermeabilisant-id_5954981.htmlRegenerates the water repellency of the fabric and optimises the performance of your garment throughout its lifespan.

Fabric started bubling in two months
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I have bought this jacket with lot of excitement. it does not perform as mentioned as i wore this jacket in 2 degree. I required one thermal inside it to survive comfortably. The most worst part about it is cloths under arms started bubling it really looks like 2 years old jacket really not expected from jacket which cost 3499 in India.
Response of the brand
Hello Ajinkya,

Thanks for your valuable time to review the Windwarm 500 jacket by Quechua. I am sorry that the product did not fulfill your expectations.

To give you a small insight on softshells, they are best solution for protection from the wind and not ideal for warmth. A fleece or a down jacket will be a good answer. The Windwarm 500 is good for protection from wind on high altitudes. If you are looking for a softshell which can keep you really warm, I request you to kindly consider - http://bit.ly/2LMTw8s , the front part of the jacket is polyfill for better warmth. If you can explain me your exact usage, I would be glad to recommend you the right product as per your need. Also for the issue of piling, this usually happens when we sleep wearing the jacket as there is higher abrasion, can you let me know if your case was different? This will allow us to take up the issue with the concerned teams to ensure our users in future do not face any issue. Meanwhile, I apologise again for the inconvenience and request you kindly to visit any of our stores closer to you and get this product exchanged.

I stay available if you need any further assistance with our products or services in the future.

Sportively,

Misleading - not windwarm - trek 900 or 500?
Used for 1 week or less
One person mentioned this but I reiterate that this jacket performs poorly in the wind especially the grey patch under the arm which is considerably large area. Don't understand why it is needed if it already has the open vent zip. However, I love the clean and slim cut and definitely 5/5 for smart styling but as a jacket - maybe indoor only. Also confusing labeling as Trek 900 or Windwarm 500 on the receipt.....
Down Pockets should have some warm cloth
Used for 1 week or less
Jacket is good but all the pockets have net and not any warm cloth.
So you can not use the pockets for seeking warmth for hands.
Cold Air keep passing through the hands.
Excellent softshell
Used for 7 to 12 months
I spent weeks looking for a proper softshell - visited a lot of outdoor clothing stores and online retailers - I chose Decathlon product.

Purpose: mid-layer underneath a waterproof jacket or as a cover layer for dry conditions. Destination: Iceland hiking adventure. Time: May.

After experiencing a week of extreme winds & occasional light showers across North-West & South Iceland I can confidently say that I have been amazed that for £40 you can get such a good quality product (especially compared to much, much more expensive high-end brands). It's very comfortable, soft, fits perfect (I am slim-build), ventilation zips worked really well, reasonably sized pockets. Wearing a base layer, mid-layer and this softshell both myself and my friend (who purchased the same product) felt very comfortable when hiking around fjords.

My only little concern after more than 6 months of using it is an armpit material bobbling a little bit - I appreciate that it's a different fabric to allow freedom of movements. It has no influence on my final rating though.

Overall: great design, fantastic quality for the price, useful pockets, great wind protection, water repellent (I treated it with waterproofing spray - good for the UK weather).
Jacket
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Brilliant piece of kit, warm dry and fairly cheap
Great item untill...
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I bought this my partner for his birthday and he loved it, unfortunately a seam near the zip up pocket on the chest has burst so we need to return it to the shop. It is a great coat though.
Great Softshell Jacket
Used for 3 to 6 months
Great quality jacket, fits well and is warmer than a shell jacket. Colour is nice and bright (I wear mine cycling around uni so that's ideal). Armpit zips are a great addition as well. Pockets are the ideal size and clear of rucksack straps. Hood is comfortable and the jacket provides decent weather protection despite not being waterproof - treatment with Nikwax Softshell products helps this and keeps the jacket looking new.

They grey material on the cuffs and armpits is prone to bobbling and doesn't look as good as the rest of the jacket which is a shame but otherwise it's been great.

Ideal jacket for wearing around town/cycling/walking in colder weather. Recommended.
More than OK, but has issues
Used for 3 to 6 months
I'd like to give this a glowing review, but it has one major issue, the hood is too large. Getting a jacket to allow a fleece underneath - so it's not massively big in any way, leaves a large hood gathering wind, and doesn't turn with your head. I solved the problem with plastic a press stud kit off amazon for
Excellent value soft shell
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Used for ski mountaineering in alps 3 weeks.
+ Good value, well fitting softshell
+ Reasonable wet resistance
+ Good (not excellent) windproofing (ventile panels can be a bit cooling)
+ Well designed and made
- 'flock' lining keeps pilling off - black crumbs on the snow each time I took stuff out of my pocket.
- Pockets a bit flimsy, only one chest pocket.
- side vents are a bit fiddly (next to pocket zips) difficult to manage with gloves on.
Good
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Bought this for my partner. He really likes it. Suitable for a spring/autumn jacket. Excellent with the thumb holes in the end of the sleeves to use with gloves. He would recommend it
