Technical Information

1
Footwear waterproofing test.
Footwear waterproofing test: these boots, which have been tested in the laboratory and the field, have a breathable, waterproof membrane for optimum protection in the rain. To start, the footwear is immersed in water with pressurised air inside to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the boot. Next, the boots are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half-immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
2
3 levels of waterproofing
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). The Arpenaz 50 children's shoe is waterproof for 2000 flexes.
3
Prolonging waterproofness
A boot's waterproofing is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the shoe. Using waterproof gaiters or mini gaiters is therefore recommended to keep your feet dry for longer by protecting the top part of your shoes and prevent water from getting in as well as pebbles, sand, etc. Use of a re-waterproofing spray is recommended several times per year. This will help your shoes recover their original water repellent qualities and combat outer stains.

Buying tips
Allow children to try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models, several sizes if required. Check the following two areas of comfort: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going down. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Feel free to make them walk around the store. Make sure children break the shoes in gradually so that they adapt to their feet.
5
What boot size should I choose?
For hiking, do not hesitate to buy one size larger than the usual size to guarantee excellent comfort on the descent and to avoid toes rubbing at the tip of the shoe. Tip: nails must be cut short, and before descending, check that the laces stop the foot from slipping forward to the front of the shoe.
6
Field tests
The wearing comfort and comfort in use of all our boots are tested by users who are representative of the people the products are designed for, under the same conditions you would encounter in use. Moreover, our "Missions Tests" put the product manager in contact with people who are not affiliated with Quechua to test, develop and validate the products.
7
Laboratory tests
Other laboratory tests are also conducted to validate the following elements: torn eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion of the sole and the components of the upper, accelerated ageing.
