Technical Information

1
Waterproofing test
The footwear is laboratory- and field-tested, equipped with membrane to ensure optimal waterproofing and breathability. Our Field Test Missions team up the product manager with people who aren't affiliated with QUECHUA, to test, improve, and validate our products.Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
2
3 levels of waterproofing
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once the product is dry.

What size should I choose?
When taking up hiking, do not hesitate to take a size above your usual shoe size to guarantee an optimal comfort when walking downhill and to prevent your toes rubbing the tops of the shoe. Tip: nails must be cut short, and before descending, check that the laces stop the foot from slipping forward to the front of the shoe.
7
Buying tips
Try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going down. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Gradually start using you boots during your first few hiking trips to break them in.

Good grip!! Intermediate sole quality
Used for 7 to 12 months
I noticed the worn out sole within first 3 months of used as I tripped quite badly on wet surface. I did not hike hard or anything similar, also I used them casually for walking .The Waterproofing is decent and works moderate in snowy conditions. I would only recommend them for occasional use due to sole made out of soft rubber.
Value for money
I am a professional high altitude trekker since last 25 years, and were using CAT and Merrill Shoes , both of which are Good but very expensive. Last year I did Rupin Pass and as my Merrill had worn out I bought this shoe, knowing well it won't stand the cold. But I should say my experience was good as the shoe was comfortable giving good grip and water proof to a good extent. Only problem was with cold on the glaciers. But it's a value for money for beginners.
EXCELLENT FOR DRY TREKKING & WORST FOR WET SURFACE
Used for 1 week or less
I used it for mild trekking and it gave me excellent grip on dry and dusty surfaces. Even it performed very well on rocky surfaces. But when it came to wet surface that was slippery, it failed miserably and I slipped and fell down. I escaped with slight bruises on my hand
Excellent Shoes for Reasonable Price

Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I was looking for snow boots (waterproof) and these were the closest I could find. I bought them hoping that something is better than nothing and my experience was WoW. I was in snow for 3 hours and neither the cold nor moisture/water went inside. I am Satisfied.
Worst Shoes Dont Buy Them!
Used for 1 week or less
I brought these shoes around 15 days back, After only a short trip to hills for 3 days, they sole has started to worn out, it looks like they will last not more than 3 months, Moreover the feet and sole comfort is worst.

I would request the manager of Decathlon Gurgaon to refund my money back.

Since the experience has been so bad. :(

Response of the brand
Hello Mr. Vinay,

Thanks for your feeback on the Arpenaz 100 hiking boots.

The Arpenaz series of Quechua is designed for beginners who go on hikes in the lowland and thus the features on the product also meet the needs of beginner only. The sole is made of rubber and is soft to give better grip for a beginner, comes with out sole alone, absence of mid sole as an occasional user does not need it. They are not recommended for usage on mountains, and for user like you who is an intermediate to intense hiker, I would suggest you to consider our Forclaz series of shoes.

I would request you to visit any of our store closer to you and get the shoes exchanged/claim a refund. Meanwhile, if you could let me know your usage or level of treks you do, I can suggest you models which will match your requirement from our range.

I stay available if you need any further assistance in future.

Sportively,Sandeep NAIR

Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I bought these shoes for my first trek. Although the trek company advised the Forclaz 500, I didn't have the budget for that kind of expense. So, I had to go for this one and it didn't disappoint me one bit! Moisture control worked and the comfort levels were decent. Although the traction on these shoes might not be as good as the Forclaz 500/600 but hey, the price needs to be kept in mind here. This one is the best bet for a budget snow trek.
Moisture control, comfort
The sole. Kind of slipped sometimes.
good

Comfortable shoes with Horrible Grip
Used for 3 to 6 months
I have been using these shoes for the past 5 months. They are good to use when the weather is dry. But they have extremely HORRIBLE TRACTION on wet surfaces. I recently had a bad experience while wearing these shoes. While hiking across an easy terrain, my shoes lost all grip on the wet rock I was walking across and I had a very nasty fall. I was lucky enough I quickly recovered before I went tumbling down into the shrubs. And I was not on any difficult terrain. Any smooth surface and these shoes are like roller skates. YOU will FALL. I did slip and slide on wet rocks wearing these shoes but I ignored it as the path was a little inclined but when these shoes lost their grip even on a flat surface, well, there's something wrong with these shoes. One more negative point about these shoes is that even though they are waterproof, if water seeps in, then it stays in. Water doesn't drain out for a long time. If these issues are fixed, I would recommend these shoes else I would return them if possible or get rid of em soon.

Response of the brand
Hi Nikhil,

Thank you for your feedback on the Arpenaz 100 Mid Boots. I am sorry to hear that the shoes disappointed you on more than one occasion.
I have provided your feedback to our product engineers and you would be happy to hear that they are almost done with the development of a new range of hiking boots which will be coming out in the next few months. This new range is equipped with a superior sole for enhanced grip.

With regards to water drainage, all boots that will have a waterproof membrane will by nature find this issue of water not draining because of the same waterproof membrane.
I recommend taking the laces and insoles out and putting the boots in shade to dry. You can also stuff newspaper inside the boots and replace newspaper as and when required.
To avoid water getting entry in the future you can also look at gaiters along with waterproof over pants. This does not seal the boots but definitely restricts the water entry to a great extend. This is how I keep water out of my boots during hikes in rainy weather. If I am crossing streams which are deep then I just take the boots off as nothing works in those conditions.
Also thanks to our customer satisfaction policy, you can get your boots exchanged at any of our Decathlon stores.

Please feel free to get in touch with me in case of any further queries.

Many thanks and regards,

Base detached from shoe
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
After 8 weeks of hiking the base is slowly detaching from body of the shoe. Please note that I used these shoes only on Saturdays for approximately only 2 hours and not everyday. I clean them according to what decathlon had suggested and maintain my shoes properly. It is sad to see these comfortable shoes in bad condition. If it can be repaired or replaced please let me know. I bought these shoes on August through snapdeal.
Thank you
