Technical Information

Unlike what many people may think, tamper-proof locks do not exist. A bike lock is there to make stealing the bike more complicated, to delay the thief and therefore act as a deterrent. A good lock has an anti-picking lock mechanism and is made out of materials requiring the use of specific tools, making theft more difficult.
Security rating
The security rating helps you choose the lock that is most suited to your needs. To accomplish this, B'Twin defined a test protocol jointly with an independent laboratory, CNPP, based on real-life theft techniques. This unique protocol allows each lock to be given a comparable rating indicating how resistant it is to theft. This rating ranges from 0 (least secure) to 10 (most secure).
Lock body
Hardened steel, tubular shackle for superior resistance (to bolt cutters, saws and hammers). Rubber coating to stop the lock banging against your bike and prevent it from damaging the paintwork. Inner shackle length: 15 cm.
Abloy anti-picking lock mechanism. Hundreds of different keys to limit the risk of theft. Comes with 3 numbered keys.
How to use the kit
This kit contains a high-security D-lock plus a cable. The D-lock allows you to secure your bike by attaching your frame to a fixed point. The cable is great for securing accessories and components such as your wheels, saddle, bags, helmet, baby seat, etc.

Failed twice - the second time with the bike locke
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Bought this from the Oxford store. The first bike lock failed almost immediately. The locking mechanism seized, and couldn't get the lock apart. Took it back, and decathlon kindly replaced it. Seized again within two weeks, and this time with the bike locked. Bolt cutters won't work, so we are trying to find an angle grinder to free bike as a type this. Obviously disappointed and currently my son has no bike to get to school.
Response of the brand
I'm deeply sorry to read that you had an issue with the lock mechanism. I trust the local store has been able to assist you with this matter.
I will forward your comments on to the design team in charge of this D lock.

Good product
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Using it for last one month, easy to lock and gives you the peace of mind.
Sturdy, well priced lock
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
This lock feels very sturdy and secure and comes with a handy cable for locking up quick-release wheels and 3 keys. The only thing to watch out for is the U-part is very short so you have to get your bike quite close to whatever you are locking it to - I've not been able to get the U around the frame and rear wheel in one go either!
Flimsy keys and easily jams
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I had one of these for about 2 months before it jammed after locking my bike up at the gym. Tried all spare keys but could not get the lock to turn more than half way, trying to force the key to turn simply bent the key and broke the plastic handle on it. Eventually with much wiggling, shaking and WD40 I did get the lock open but this was after I'd had to use bolt cutters to cut the cable portion of the lock so I could get the bike home.

For this kind of thing to happen after only 2 months of use and never being left uncovered in rain/bad weather I think is simply unacceptable. I was then refused a refund or credit to spend against a new, decent lock because I did manage to eventually get the lock open.

Save yourself the hassle, get a Kryptonite for the same price and you'll never have a problem.
Response of the brand
If the lock jammed and you are not happy with the item and you are within the 365 day period then you can get an exchange as stipulated in our returns policy (providing the item has been used in the correct way as is the case with you). You local store should do so.
I will forward your review on to the product manager in charge of this item regarding the lock.

Value for money
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
This lock is not very much secure but can be used for kids bike or to just lock helmet. But at this price this is the best. Value for money
Not so safe for longer unsupervised parking
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
The D lock is good but a bit small in size. If you want to park conveniently and quickly, without much effort to place cycle extremely close to parking stand, then go for a larger one. Also our cable was cut, when parked outside the tube station entire day. Luckily nothing was stolen. So if planning to park for longer time at unsupervised places, then not the safest lock. We're planning to get another bigger D lock to go along with this small D lock to secure the bike frame and wheels(clip-on).
