Additional recommended products
Care products: waterproof spray or wash-in waterproof liquid to restore the fabric's water repellent properties and optimise the garment's performance throughout its lifespan.
Waterproof component
We measure a fabric's resistance to water pressure by the height of a water column in mm that can be supported by the fabric (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure, the higher the waterproof rating of the fabric. A component with a 5000 mm waterproof rating, i.e. it can withstand the pressure of the 5000 mm column of water. This is also equivalent to 5000 Schmerbers.
Waterproof garment
This garment has been tested in a shower of 60 L of water/m²/hr for 2 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a rain shower in the mountains.
Breathable component
To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we test its evaporative resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower the fabric's resistance, the more water vapour generated by physical activity can escape, and the higher the fabric's breathability. For example: RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric / 9
Membrane or coated component
The coating is like a layer of "paint" applied on the underside of the fabric to make it waterproof while remaining breathable. It is often less costly than a membrane, and requires a lining for protection. The membrane is like a very fine plastic film (polyurethane) making the component waterproof while remaining breathable. It has the advantage of being more flexible, lightweight and durable, and often more breathable than a coating.
Water-repellent component
A fabric's water repellent property is its capacity to repel water so that it runs off its surface. This prevents the fabric from absorbing water and keeps it lightweight, breathable and warm. A fabric is made water repellent by applying a treatment to its outer surface. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (with every 3 washes). All the Quechua overtrousers have received a water-repellent treatment.
Environmental measurements
The environmental impact of the product is calculated over the entire lifecycle of the product using different indicators. An overall ABCDE rating is given to help you easily identify the most eco-friendly products by comparing similar products to each other (t-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc). Decathlon is committed to displaying environmental information. For further information:

Product test
Our design team is based at the foot of the Mont-Blanc, in Haute-Savoie (France). All year round, we create and develop products that are beautiful, simple and technologically advanced. These are then ruthlessly tested in the field, because we believe that the only way to continually improve our products is to test them under the real-life conditions you will experience.
