Check out the eco-design of this padded jacket! | The filling of this padded jacket is made from 70% recycled polyester fibres. For the lining, we use a “bi-ton” dyeing process where only one thread in every two is dyed. This dyed thread is also the result of dope dyeing which incorporates the colour pigments from the initial thread manufacture to avoid the use of dyeing baths and reduce our water consumption. This process can reduce CO2 emissions by 40% compared to traditional dyeing methods. |
Additional sustainable development information | On MT100 black, MT100 khaki and MT100 blue models, the outer fabric uses a clean dyeing process called "Dope Dyed" which consists of integrating colour pigments in the form of the thread (and not submerged in a dye bathing or in the water). This reduces consumption and the discharge of waste water from colouring our fabrics. |
How warm is this padded jacket? | This padded jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been certified for an active comfort temperature of -5°C during a standardised test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a synthetic long-sleeved T-shirt and a light fleece underneath. It works with a simulated 5 km/h wind. We have also tested this model in static mode. Its temperature rating is +5°C in this case. |
Want to know more about the wadding? | We use 100% polyester wadding (70% recycled) weighing 125 g/sqm in the body and 150 g/sqm in the sleeves and hood. The wadding is made from silicone-coated spiral fibres that make it highly compressible and highly durable. Despite its low thickness, it has high insulation properties thanks to the air trapped inside, and remains lightweight. It retains its warmth even when wet. |
Durable materials | This polyamide canvas uses 20 denier threads (measurement unit of the thread) and resists up to 20,000 abrasion cycles. Durability is calculated using the Martindale test, Standard 12 947-2. This test is to rub the jacket’s material against another material in the goal of observing how the product withstands wear. Outer: 100% polyamide fabric 39g/sqm, 20 denier Lining: 100% polyamide fabric 35g/sqm, a mix of 15 and 20 denier threads |
Water repellent property of component (not to be confused with waterproofing) | The water repellent property of a fabric is its ability to make water run off its surface without absorbing it. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight and warm. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface, this property may deteriorate with use. We recommend that you restore it after each wash. |
PFC-free water-repellent treatment | With the MT100 padded jacket, the water-repellent treatment does not use PFC (perfluorocarbons) or is considered PFC-free. PFCs are used to make fabric water-repellent, however they are toxic to the environment and people. By replacing the PFCs with other technologies that we are developing to enable the same level of performance, we are helping to reduce this environmental impact. |
How to restore water-repellent properties? | Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend you use a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. To renew the fabric’s water repellent properties and optimise performance throughout the lifespan of your garment. |
A snag? This is how to repair your down jacket | A tear on a padded jacket can happen when trekking! The good news is that it can be repaired so the tear doesn’t get any bigger or to stop the synthetic fibers from escaping. Ask the teammates on the shop floor for the solutions. |

A score for comparing products' environmental impact | The product's environmental impact is calculated over its entire life cycle using various indicators. A score from A to E is given to help you easily identify the most eco-friendly products by comparing products of the same type (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc.) Decathlon is a voluntary supporter of this environmentally-friendly labelling approach. |
