Additional recommended products
Forclaz Rain overtrousers for protecting the lower body to complete an effective rain protection outfit designed for mountain walks. Care products: waterproof spray or wash-in waterproof liquid, to restore the fabric's water repellent properties and optimise your garment's performance throughout its lifetime.
8
Component waterproofing
We measure a fabric's resistance to water pressure, expressed in terms of the height of a water column in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the higher the fabric's waterproof rating. Components with a 2000 mm rating can withstand the pressure of a 2000 mm column of water (which is equivalent to a rain shower lasting two hour).
9
Waterproofing of the garment
This garment has been validated during the shower test under 100 l of water / sqm / hour for 3 hours. This test reproduces the conditions of a violent storm in the mountains.
10
Component breathability
In addition to breathability of the fabrics used, Quechua develops technical solutions (zips, ventilation, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of its trekking jackets and overtrousers designed for great hiking use (Forclaz, Bionnassay and Helium lines). These ventilation systems allow both temperature regulation inside the garment and help wick away perspiration generated by the body during exercise.
11
Component with coating or a membrane
The coating is like a layer of paint applied on the underside of the fabric to make it waterproof while remaining breathable. It is often less costly than a membrane, and requires a lining for protection. The membrane is like a very fine plastic film (polyurethane) making the component waterproof while remaining breathable. It has the advantage of being more flexible, lightweight, durable and often more breathable than the coating.
12
Component 3 layers, 2 layers or 2.5 layers
3 layers: the membrane is stuck between the outer and inner layer of the component. This construction helps the membrane last longer and boosts the component's performance. 2 layers: the membrane is only stuck to the outer fabric, while the inner protective lining is free. This construction costs less but is generally more cumbersome. 2.5 layers: the membrane is protected on the inside by a kind of varnish coating rather than an actual layer to make it as lightweight as possible
13
Water repellent property of the component
A fabric is water repellent when it makes water run off its surface without absorbing in. This prevents the fabric from soaking up water and keeps it lightweight, warm and breathable. The water-repellent effect is achieved by treating the outer surface of the fabric. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (recommended after every three washes). All the Quechua waterproof jackets have received a water repellent treatment.

Awesome
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
This jacket was a fantastic buy. I bought this to go climbing Munro's in Scotland in late October. We had seven hours on the hills in 40-50 mph winds and sleeting rain. My Saloman boots gave in and leaked, my Skinz gloves were like a sponge, but this jacket kept me dry throughout, amazing value for the price. I had two layers underneath and fine whilst walking but needed an extra fleece layer when standing around. I am also using this for Adventure racing as it is light and breathable so well worth the money.
Excellent craftsmanship and value
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I am thoroughly impressed by the craftsmanship of this jacket - it is at par with premium brands such as Arcteryx or Mountain Hardwear. Highly functional piece of gear - pockets and ventilation are very well thought out. The value is unbeatable, well done, Decathlon!
Nice jacket
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Bought for my son's DofE. Reasonable weight and very waterproof. Slim fit which is good for a tall lanky teenager. Looks good.
Value for money
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Well made comfortable fitting jacket which so far has kept me dry in the wet.
MH500
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Great jacket with premium feel. Haven't tested in a real down pour but light rain beads off no problem. I bought 3xl so I could layer up underneath if required. The vents are brilliant especially if walking or biking with pack on. Adjustment and fit are great and zips feel solid and dependable. This was 59.99 in store but reserved and paid 39.99 on line with free delivery to local asda. I will definitely go and look at this again when it's time for replacement and a 2 year warranty is great for a jacket that will be well worn. Well done decathlon
A very good jacket for the price
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
So far i have found this jacket performed well. I have used it during a couple of hikes in Wales, although not in very wet conditions surprisingly. The material seems tough and doesn’t russell too much when you wear it.
MH500 waterproof jacket.
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Excellent quality for the money and a very comfortable fit.
Washing?
Used for 7 to 12 months
Can someone advise on the best way to wash this jacket in order to protect its waterproof and breathable qualities ? The label says 30degC, no fabric conditioner, no tumble dry. Any advice on detergent ? Normal stuff (bio/non bio?) or nixwax specialist stuff?? Anyone got any washing experiences?
Thus far very good
Used for 7 to 12 months
Ideally I would have given this a 4.5 as it does have it faults but for the money it is very, very good.
The material is 2 layers I think and stretchy almost like one of those soft-shell-esque waterproof jackets that are currently en vogue.
I should say that I have had many waterproof jackets of various prices and materials over the years from Haglofs, Rab, Sprayway and Montane, North Face and Berghaus. Everything from eVent, Goretex, Pertex Shield Plus and own-brand laminates and ventile. The Rab eVent was good but being a pull-on is awkward (especially since putting on weight) and was dearer than this in a half-price sale whereas all the others failed at sometime or other - several on the first outing!
What I can say now after a good few uses and some not insignificant rain is that it is still beading and is comfortable to wear.
Pluses - performance, price, hood adjustments once used to it, comfort, weight (okay - not super light though).
Minuses - sleeves overlong and velcro tabs need to be used fully as cuffs too wide, not packable (not a real issue for me), hood peak maybe a tad too short, small choice of colours.
Overall I am really happy with this jacket so far. Most important for me is performance and value and this scores very highly in both regards.
The pit zips and okay, and I can live with the sleeve and cuff issue. It works better for me that jackets costing 2, 3 or even more times the price and seriously.... why would you bother paying more for a name?
It could have more features but that would probably result in a higher price so I am happy with it as is.
I should say that I haven't washed it yet and will avoid doing so as long as possible but so far, so good :)
Very Good Fit
Used for 1 week or less
Received this today promptly within 48 hours of ordering. Having had previous misgivings about buying online due to outdoors kit with big fat American sizes I referred to the Decathlon sizing chart which turns out to be correct. The drop tail and tailored cut is on the athletic side, with a 40" chest and 32" waist it fits perfectly with room for a fleece or similar underneath. Go up a size if you are more portly than my self. Features such as the pit vents, laser cut pockets and the helmet compatible hood are all top notch as is the stitching. Its possibly not as downpour proof as heavier Goretx jackets but no DWR coated breathable jacket is in my experience unless you want to spend a few hundred on a Gore paclite. You can get other jackets at this price point but nothing as usable or robust - it's excellent.
