Footwear waterproofing test.
Footwear waterproofing test: laboratory- and field-tested, shoes with a breathable, waterproof membrane ensure you have optimum protection from the rain. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking, half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
3 levels of waterproofing
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). The Arpenaz 50 children's shoe is waterproof for 2000 flexes.
A shoe's waterproofing is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the shoe. Using waterproof gaiters or mini gaiters is therefore recommended to keep your feet dry for longer by protecting the top part of your shoes and prevent water from getting in as well as pebbles, sand, etc. Use of a re-waterproofing spray is recommended several times per year. This will help your shoes recover their original water repellent qualities and combat outer stains.
Allow children to try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several styles or sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going down. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Feel free to make them walk around the store. Make sure children break the shoes in gradually so that they adapt to their feet.
What shoe size do I choose?
For hiking, do not hesitate to buy one size larger than the usual size to guarantee excellent comfort on the descent and to avoid toes rubbing at the tip of the shoe. Recommendation: nails must be cut short, and before descending, check that the laces stop the foot from slipping forward to the front of the shoe.
All our shoes are tested for comfort and use, by testers who are representative of the people the products are designed for, under identical conditions. Moreover, our "Missions Tests" put the product manager in contact with people who are not affiliated with Quechua to test, develop and validate the products.
Other laboratory tests are also conducted to approve the quality of the following components: tearing eyelets and straps, gluing, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, accelerated ageing.
