Technical Information

1
Waterproofing test
Footwear waterproofing test: these boots, which have been tested in the laboratory and the field, have a breathable, waterproof membrane for optimum protection in the rain. First, the boot is immersed in water while the air pressure inside is increased to check that no bubbles form on the surface. They are half immersed and then placed on a mechanical arm that simulates walking: we then check that the inside of the boot remains perfectly dry.
2
3 levels of waterproofing
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2,000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4,000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8,000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the boot regains its original waterproofing once dry.
3
Field test
All our boots undergo user comfort and field tests carried out by users who represent the target market in conditions identical to real-life use. Our Mission Tests bring together the product manager with people not connected with Quechua to test, develop and approve the products.
4
Laboratory test
Other laboratory tests are also conducted to pass the following: tearing resistance of the eyelets and straps, resistance of adhesives, toxicology, UV resistance, resistance to abrasion of the outsole and upper components, accelerated ageing.
5
What shoe size should I choose?
For hiking use, don't hesitate to try on a pair that is one size above your usual shoe size to make sure that they are as comfortable as possible when going downhill and avoid any contact between your toes and the front of the boot. Advice: nails must be cut short, and before descending, check that the laces stop the foot from slipping forward to the front of the boot.
6
Buying tips
Try on both boots, while standing upright, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot when going downhill. There should be no pressure points when trying them on. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Gradually wear in your boots over the course of a few hikes so that they conform to your feet.

Response of the brand
Hello Mr. Ajinkya,

Thanks for your feedback on the Arpenaz 100 hiking shoes by quechua. I apologise for the inconvenience caused to you.

The Arpenaz 100 shoes are designed for short hikes on lowlands for occasional user. The shoe comes with only an outsole and does not have a midsole as the user on this terrain does not use it for long. I apologise again for the inconvenience and I request you kindly to visit any of our stores closer to you and get this product exchanged. In exchange for this, if you could let me know your usage, I'd be glad to recommend the right shoe for your comfortable usage.

I stay available if you need any further assistance with our products in future.

Sole is slippery. No grip
Used for 1 week or less
Tried using for mild hiking activity. Had to remove shoes as it was too slippery.
Not breathable = sweaty feet!
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I don't have a problem with sweaty feet at all, but I wore these for work for about 4 weeks, I'm a service engineer so not really heavy use. But, I noticed my feet got very hot and my socks were pretty wet. After about 3 weeks these shoes developed a pretty nasty odour- something I've never had before. So, I've had to ditch them.
Nice

I brought these as a general purpose shoe - day wear, shopping etc. I have not tested the waterproofing yet but on the whole a good shoe for the money.
